Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP) for both Uniformed and Detective Pathway with Cleveland Police
Have you ever thought of being a Police Constable? With a starting salary of £32,256 plus a large variety of benefits, staff associations and a generous pension scheme, there may never have been a better time to join. Interested? Please apply below!
As a Police Constable you'll play a vital role in ensuring that the communities of Cleveland are kept safe. It isn’t easy but it is rewarding and can be a career like no other. We want people to join us who have a range of life experiences and backgrounds; it is vitally important that we represent all the communities that we serve.
Do you have an analytical mind and love to solve problems? Then you may wish to continue your application on our Detective Pathway. You will complete your initial training and your tutor phase within our response/neighbourhood policing, before you move on to an investigative role.
During the application, you will be asked to tick your preferred pathway via the Police Constable Entry Programme.
Police constable entry programme (PCEP)
The PCEP does not require you to study for a university qualification during probation. This route normally takes two years, after which, if you successfully complete probation, you become a PC. As set out in Police Regulation 10 (opens an external website in the same tab), you will need a level 3 (opens an external website in the same tab) qualification to join (two A-levels or the equivalent) or significant and equivalent work experience.
Eligibility
To become a Police Constable or Detective Constable
- Be 17 years of age or older (you must be 18 by the time you are appointed).
- Be a British Citizen, an EC/EEA national, Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom.
- Hold a full UK car manual driving licence, with 6 months driving experience when appointed.
- Basic level of literacy and numeracy skills, you may be asked for evidence of this as part of the eligibility criteria.
- Level 3 qualification equivalent to at least 2 A-Levels.
- Have lived in the UK for over 3 years.
- Not have tattoos on your face or tattoos on your hands, neck, forearms that could be offensive.
- Not be registered bankrupt (or have bankruptcy debts that have been discharged within the past three years). If you have any other outstanding and unmanageable debts, please contact us for more information.
- Be able to pass a job-related fitness test.
- Be able to pass a medical assessment.
Vetting Requirements
Circumstances that will prevent applicants from passing the Police vetting process include:
- Being convicted of a criminal offence leading to a custodial sentence (including suspended sentences).
- Being subject to the notification requirements of Part 2 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (notification and orders).
- Being convicted of, or given a caution for a listed offence, or convicted of an attempt or conspiracy to commit a listed offence.
- Being convicted of, or given caution for, an offence which is determined to involve behaviour by the applicant amounting to domestic abuse.
Other cautions and convictions will be considered on a case by case basis, however having a caution or conviction means it is less likely that vetting clearance will be granted.
Joining the police force is truly life changing. Not just for you – but for all the people and communities you serve. You’ll gain front line experience investigating crime, patrolling the local community, helping vulnerable people, interviewing suspects, giving evidence in court, keeping the peace at events, educating young people.
