An independent Audit Committee for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and the Chief Constable of Cleveland Police advises the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and the Chief Constable of Cleveland Police according to good governance principles.
The Audit Committee comprises five members who are independent of the OPCC and Cleveland Police. It meets at least four times a year. Representatives of the executive of the OPCC and the Executive Team of Cleveland Police are required to attend each meeting of the Committee.
Due to the successful completion, of the maximum, 2 terms of appointment to the Committee the roles of Chair and Vice Chair of the Committee will become vacant later in this calendar year.
In advance of these vacancies the OPCC would like to appoint to both roles and therefore provide the new role holders an opportunity for a handover/familiarisation period.
Due to these roles coming to the end of their terms and one additional vacancy that already exists the PCC and Chief Constable are seeking to appoint a Chair for the forthcoming 4 years and 2 Members, one of which could be appointed as Vice Chair, on terms of between 2 and 4 years.
The Audit Committee plays a key role in enhancing public trust and confidence in the governance of the OPCC and Cleveland Police, and assisting the PCC to discharge their statutory responsibilities in holding Cleveland Police to account
Applicants must be independent from the Police and Crime Commissioner, the Police and Crime Panel, the Chief Constable, and not employed by the Police or its partner organisations. They must be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of corporate governance issues.
The Chair and Vice Chair will need proven experience in chairing meetings, preferably in a corporate governance/audit/finance field.
Under the proposals, the Chair will receive an annual allowance of £3,400 (based on an annual commitment of 12-16 days), the Vice Chair £2,100 (8-10 days) and other Members £1,500 (5-7days).

The final meeting of the current terms of the Chair and Vice-Chair is scheduled to take place at 10.30am on Thursday 30th September at the Community Safety Hub, Stainton Way, Middlesbrough TS8 9LB.
